What is a tree botanist?

Botanists are often interested in all types of plants, from mosses and ferns to trees and flowers. However, they may specialize in a particular area of botany or even a type of plant. In botany, a tree is a perennial plant with an elongated stem, or trunk, that supports branches and leaves in most species. In some uses, the definition of a tree may be narrower, including only wood plants with secondary growth, plants that can be used as wood, or plants above a specific height.

In broader definitions, taller palm trees, tree ferns, bananas, and bamboos are also trees. Trees are not a taxonomic group, but rather include a variety of plant species that have independently developed a trunk and branches as a way to rise above other plants to compete for sunlight. Horticulture is considered a branch of biology. Horticulturists can take care of vegetation, gardens, golf courses, parks and all types of landscaping.

They could work in different ways of growing plants, such as in hydroponics.

Arborists

can work as tree surgeons. Arboriculture services include improving the lives of trees or shrubs by shaping them or eliminating things that pose a threat to the life of the tree or shrub. Some arborists specialize even more by working only with specific shrubs or trees.

Vegetable growers, on the other hand, work with all types of vegetation. Botanists study smaller plant forms, such as algae and bacteria, to larger plant forms, such as sequoias and sequoias. I'm not sure that many botanists (if any) would define “trees” without wood being part of the definition. Trees: Even a small child knows what a tree is, yet surprisingly there is no universally recognized precise definition of what a tree is, either botanically or in common language.

The science of horticulture covers a broader spectrum than that of an arborist, whose concern is trees or shrubs. This could include acting as a consultant to determine the type of trees to be used in landscape design, trimming trees for optimal health and growth, or diagnosing and treating trees with diseases. Often, the number of stems coming from the base is used to differentiate trees (one or few stems) from shrubs (many stems), but this does not apply and is not universally useful. Horticulture is a science and art that employs technology to grow plants, grasses, shrubs or trees for human use, according to Michigan State University.

Differentiating shrubs from trees is honestly arbitrary and is usually dictated by the application to which the definitions apply. Both jobs involve working with living things (plants, shrubs or trees), but one position is more of a specialty than the other. Arborists generally offer tree removal, wiring or bracing services for structural support, transplanting and planting or shredding stumps, when needed. You'll find horticulturists and arborists working to improve plant cultivation or who care for diseased trees and shrubs.

As such, botanically speaking, the growth habit of bananas or bamboo would be considered a tree. Arborists can help people learn and understand what nutrients help trees grow, what diseases infest trees, and how a tree's immune system works.
